A Romano-British enamelled bronze disc mount Circa 1st-2nd Century A.D. Composed of a central circular chequerboard pattern, each of the squares edged with red or blue contain tiny blue and white chequered squares, set within a bronze rim, a further encircling band of white with two rows of finely detailed blue fir tree motifs, another bronze rim encircling this layer, the outer band in deep blue with a double row of fine white scroll motifs, the remnants of a stud on the reverse, 2in. (4.9cm.) diam., with tiny pieces of the millefiori missing. Provenance: Found by current owner’s grandfather whose employment was as a grave-digger in a Suffolk church.
